My co-founder and I set out to build a language learning app to make it possible to become fluent in a foreign language without moving to a foreign country.

We wanted to solve one of the core problems in language learning: many learners are unable to understand spoken native speakers after taking a course or using an app. You may know what I'm talking about if you've ever taken high school Spanish or used Duolingo.

We figured that a new paradigm was needed - the best way to learn to learn is through immersion.

So we built a system to turn real world videos into bite-sized language lessons. LLMs helped us solve many problems that were previously expensive to solve at scale: clipping videos semantically, validating subtitle accuracy, explaining words & phrases, sentence separation, and contextual definitions.
